Christmas in Vienna 2005

Orchestra: Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna
Soloists: Thomas Hampson, Ildikó Raimondi, Federica von Stade
Choirs: Vienna Boys' Choir, Arnold Schönberg Choir

A traditional Christmas concert, in keeping with the very special atmosphere of the holidays and focusing on European traditions. A combination of traditional seasonal music such as the ''Ave Maria'' and less well-known Christmas songs written by Austrian composers Hugo Wolf or Franz Schubert. Last but not least, a tribute to W. A. Mozart, in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of his birth in 2006. December 5, the day of his death, will usher in the ''Mozart Year'' 2006 in honor of
this most famous of all composers.
Artistically speaking, ''Christmas in Vienna'' is a top-notch traditional
Christmas concert intended as a purely classical platform for celebrating
the holidays. In addition, this event provides a glimpse of some
of Vienna’s historic sites, including the Stephansdom cathedral or the
Figaro House, while telling very touching Yule-tide tales involving
prominent personalities.

The participation of baritone Thomas Hampson, one of the finest
singers in the contemporary music scene, guarantees the highest level
of artistic quality. He is joined by sopranos Ildikó Raimondi and
Federica von Stade, making up a cast to ensure a truly memorable
event.
